Projectsubsidie voor journalisten Caribisch gedeelte van het Koninkrijk | Project grant for journalists in the Dutch Caribbean region

Ben je journalist of journalistieke mediamaker in het Caribisch deel van het Koninkrijk en heb je een goed idee voor een journalistiek project? Bijvoorbeeld een onderzoek naar dat ene onderwerp dat je al lang bezighoudt of een verhaal dat meer bekendheid verdient? Het Fonds Bijzondere Journalistieke Projecten biedt de mogelijkheid dit te realiseren. We bieden hiervoor financiering en koppelen je aan een sparringpartner met wie je tijdens je project kunt overleggen.

Ontvang €7.000,- subsidie om te werken aan je project, ondersteund door een sparringpartner. Dit bedrag is om gedurende twee maanden aan het project te werken en ook een deel van de onkosten te dekken.

Je bent journalist of je werkt aan journalistieke verhalen en je woont in het Caribische deel van het Koninkrijk. Je hebt al langer een idee voor een (tijdrovend) project dat je graag zou willen uitwerken. Je hebt een onderwerp dat aandacht verdient en je kunt hierbij advies van een sparringpartner gebruiken.

Wil je je een tijd verdiepen in een onderwerp in het Caribisch gebied en wil je daarover publiceren? Dan is deze regeling een goede kans. Deze regeling geeft je de mogelijkheid om je gedurende twee maanden full time of gedurende langere periode part time (met een maximum van zes maanden) vast te bijten of onder te dompelen in je onderwerp en erover te publiceren. De regeling dekt de kosten voor je werk gedurende een tweetal maanden en (een gedeelte van) de onkosten die je maakt om je verhaal te maken, denk hierbij aan het huren van bijvoorbeeld apparatuur, reiskosten of archiefkosten, etc.

Het Fonds BJP is er om journalisten en tijdrovende projecten te steunen. Dit geldt ook voor de Startsubsidie journalisten Caribisch gedeelte van het Koninkrijk. Deze regeling kan dus niet worden gebruikt voor het maken van dagelijks nieuws of korte berichtgeving en is dus expliciet bedoeld voor projecten die meer tijd en aandacht nodig hebben.

Je vraagt subsidie aan door dit formulier in te vullen en te verzenden, dat kan op uiterlijk dinsdag 1 april. Als je vragen hebt over deze subsidie of je project, schrijf je dan uiterlijk in voor het online spreekuur op 3 maart 2025. Je kunt je uiterlijk 24 februari 2025 inschrijven. Heb je eerder al vragen? Alle aanmeldingen met een volledig ingevulde vragenlijst worden aan een onafhankelijke adviescommissie voorgelegd. De commissie zal alle aanvragen beoordelen op basis van de in het formulier gegeven informatie. De commissie let met name op het belang van je onderwerp (urgentie), je plan van aanpak (journalistieke methode) en de manier waarop je het project gaat publiceren (video, audio, geschreven). Het is daarom goed om, voor je het formulier invult en verzendt na te denken over de volgende vragen: Waarom dit onderwerp? Waarom nu? Voor wie?

De uitslag van de commissie zal via de mail worden bekendgemaakt. Het Fonds BJP zal in samenspraak met jou een geschikte sparringpartner regelen. Een subsidie binnen deze regeling kan éénmalig worden toegekend.

Je kan met jouw vragen over de subsidie of je project bij ons terecht tijdens het online spreekuur op maandag 3 maart 2025. Schrijf je voor 24 februari 2025 in voor een gesprek van 20 minuten om je vragen met ons te bespreken. Het spreekuur vindt plaats tussen 10:00 en 11:00 uur lokale tijd (15:00 en 16:00 uur CET). Na een aantal maanden van onderzoek naar de journalistiek in het Caribisch deel van het Koninkrijk zien we dat er behoefte is aan mogelijkheden voor lokale journalisten. Er zijn interessante (journalistieke) verhalen te maken in het Caribisch gebied en we willen deze verhalen gemaakt door lokale journalisten mogelijk maken en ondersteunen. Dit doen we door met deze subsidieronde aanvragers in staat te stellen gedurende twee maanden te kunnen werken aan een project, ondersteund door een sparringpartner.

Deze regeling bestaat naast de andere regelingen die het Fonds BJP kent, die ook doorlopend open staan, zowel voor journalisten in Europees Nederland als in het Caribisch deel van het Koninkrijk.

Are you a journalist or a journalistic media maker based in the Dutch Caribbean region, and have you got a great idea for a journalism project? It could be anything from an investigation into a topic that’s been on your mind for a long time to a story that deserves more attention. Dutch Fund for In-Depth Journalism (FBJP) offers journalists the opportunity to realise their ideas. We can provide financing and pair you with a coaching partner to consult with during your project. 

The €7,000 grant will enable you to work on your project, supported by a coaching partner. The funding is intended to cover your time dedicated to the project for two months, plus some of your expenses.

You are a journalist or working on journalistic stories and you live in the Dutch Caribbean region. You’ve had an idea for a long time for a potentially time-consuming project that you would love to develop. It’s on a topic that deserves wider attention and you could make good use of advice from a coaching partner.

This grant offers a great opportunity if you want to dive into a specific topic in the Dutch Caribbean region and publish a story on it. It’s your chance to work full-time for two months, to go in-depth on your story and to publish journalistic work. The grant will cover your time for two months and at least part of your expenses while developing your story – expenses could include renting equipment, travel or archiving, for example.

The Fund supports work on time-consuming journalistic projects, including through this start-up grant for journalists in the Dutch Caribbean. This grant is intended exclusively for projects that require a substantial investment of time and attention – it cannot be used for daily news or short reports.

All applications that include a fully completed application form will be passed on to an independent advisory committee for assessment. The committee will assess all applications on the basis of the information provided in the application form. The committee will pay particular attention to the following criteria: the importance/urgency of your subject matter; your approach / journalistic method; and your chosen publishing medium (video, audio, writing, etc). We recommend that you consider the following questions before completing and submitting the form: Why have you chosen this topic? Why focus on it right now? Who is it aimed at?

You will be notified by email of the committee’s decision. The FBJP will arrange for a suitable coaching partner in consultation with you. A grant awarded through this grant may only be awarded once.

Our months of research into journalism in the Dutch Caribbean region have revealed a need for opportunities for local journalists. There is potential in the region for making good journalistic stories, and we are looking to support local journalists in making those stories. We want to achieve this by enabling the successful applicants to work on their project for two months, with the support of a coaching partner.

This grant runs in parallel with other rolling FBJP grant that are open to journalists in the European Netherlands and the Dutch Caribbean.
